Remote Wilderness Fishing for the Big Five Sport Fish

Thank you for your interest. Our Northern Ontario Fishing Lodge is located in a remote area of northwestern Ontario, 25 miles northwest of Vermilion Bay, accessible only by float plane. We offer an outstanding variety of fishing that includes Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, Lake Trout, Muskie, and Northern Pike. When staying at our Ontario Fly In Fishing Lodge, we fish our main lake, the adjacent river system and five portage lakes.

In recent years our waters have produced Walleye to 12 pounds, Smallmouth Bass to 6 pounds, Lake Trout to 27 pounds, Muskies to 30 pounds, and Northern Pike to 28 pounds. These are the waters you won't forget. Wet your line and start hauling in the Tackle Busters.

Famous Lake for
Ontario Lake Lake Trout Fishing and
Northwest Ontario Smallmouth Bass

Big Canon Lake. This is our main lake where the Ontario Canada Fly In Fishing Lodge is located. Over 75 miles of shoreline surround this deep, crystal clear, spring fed fisherman's paradise. Ranging from three to four miles wide and about eight miles long, this lake has an area of 8.8 square miles or about 5,600 acres. Famous for its Lake Trout and Smallmouth Bass, Big Canon also produces the occasional trophy Northern Ontario Muskie Fishing and Northern Ontario Pike Fishing. This lake has never been commercially fished. (A boat & motor for every two fishermen is maintained at the Ontario Fishing Lodge.)

Waters Especially Known for Walleye and Northern Pike

Wabigoon River System/Segise Flowage. This system is adjacent to the Ontario Fishing Lodge with over 25 miles available to fish. Excellent Walleye and Northern Pike with some Smallmouth Bass. Transportation to and from the river dock is provided by "Super D" (truck & trailer). (Ten boats & motors are maintained at the river dock plus two guide boats.)

Howard Lake. Portage lake off of Big Canon with excellent Northern Ontario Walleye Fishing and Northern Pike. A great "Action" lake. (Two boats & motors are maintained on the lake.)

Segise Lake. Portage lake off of the river system that contains excellent Walleye, Northern Pike and Smallmouth Bass on a Northwest Ontario Fishing Trip. The largest Walleye of the year is usually caught in this lake. (Four boats & motors are maintained at the entrance to the lake.)

Catch and Release Waters for Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike, and Muskies

Francile Lake. Portage lake just across from the lodge. A "Catch and Release" lake that contains trophy Smallmouth Bass, Muskie and Northern Pike. The larger fish of the year are usually caught in this lake. (Two boats & motors are maintained on the lake.)

No Name and Little No Name Lakes. Portage lakes off of Big Canon that contain Muskies only, no other game fish are found in these waters. The average Muskie is between 6 and 10 lbs. with the occasional 20 lb. class fish. (One boat is maintained on each lake.)

Quality Fishing and Equipment

All of this provides an exceptional quality and variety of Ontario Fishing that remains good throughout the summer at this Northern Ontario Fishing Resort. We have all 16 ft. LUND STALKERS with complete floors and pedestal seats. The sixteen boats on the lake and the ten boats on the river are powered by 25HP, 4-cycle, electric start YAMAHA motors. Our portage lakes have 9.9 & 6 HP YAMAHA motors. Our two guide boats are 17 ft. LUND OUTFITTERS with complete floors and pedestal seats. They are powered by 50 HP 4 cycle YAMAHA motors. All equipment is in excellent condition. Detailed maps of the fishing area are provided to you when you arrive, along with a complete briefing designed to PUT YOU ON FISH.

Elegant Dining in a Rustic Environment

We offer the American Plan which means three meals each day are included in the package. Breakfast and dinner are served in the Ontario Fly In Fishing Lodge. Lunches are packed to go with you as sandwiches or a "Shore Lunch Box", your choice. The "Shore Lunch Box" provides everything you need, and then some, to cook your own fish out on the bank.

You can bet we'll feed you well during your stay. Only the fishing is better than the eating because our cook prepares everything from scratch. Don't forget to bring your appetite.

Fully Modern Accommodations

The accommodations are ten well built log and frame cabins which comfortably sleep from two to six people each. Each cabin has a full bathroom (with toilet & shower) and hot and cold running water. Each cabin is also equipped with electricity (24 hour), a heavy duty wood burning stove with glass door, refrigerator and twin beds with inner spring mattresses. Linens and towels are provided along with daily maid service. You can expect well kept and clean cabins.

Located in Northwest Ontario

Vermilion Bay is located on Highway 17 in Northwest Ontario, between Dryden and Kenora, 140 miles North of International Falls, Minnesota. Transportation to Big Canon Lake is by float plane provided by Wilderness Air from Vermilion Bay. The Wilderness Air Seaplane Base is located 7/10 of a mile North of Vermilion Bay on Highway 647.

2008 Fly In American Plan Rates

Our packages do not include your license, live bait or a guide. Licenses and minnows are available at the lodge. Our Northern Ontario Fishing Guides are not considered necessary for most, but if desired, they must be reserved 30 days in advance. In addition to frequently overlooked items, souvenirs and an array of fishing tackle are available in our tackle shop.

Reservations are required and should be made early to assure accommodations when you want them. A deposit of $100 is required for each individual in the group. Our staff is dedicated to assist you in every way to make your stay with us a very enjoyable experience. We are open from the third Saturday in May (Walleye opening) through the end of September when the Lake Trout season closes.
